This reading was pulled at the exact time of the New Moon in Sagittarius, December 19, 2025, at 8:43 PM EST in Washington, DC, and is an energetic blueprint for the entire lunar cycle: insights to guide action and generate growth.
THE ASTROLOGICAL CONTEXT
The Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus are in Sagittarius at the peak of the Sagittarius New Moon, and for those of us in The District, Leo is rising.
For all of us, Uranus, the planet of ice and air, is retrograde in often risk-averse Taurus, reflecting on its purpose: The instigator, changemaker, visionary ruled by airy Aquarius.
Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, is retrograde in its exalted space, Cancer, revisiting and revisioning expansion: blind optimism and overindulgence will feel like anchors to the spirit. We're having chance encounters with people or facing circumstances that have us asking:
Higher self, who are you...really?
With the Sagittarius New Moon, we are setting that final flame, killing off that last lingering hook into "that one thing" (the thing your friends are tired of hearing about, but carefully listen anyhow...that one thing), and letting it all lie down to be absorbed by the wild and wonderful universe.
I pulled some generative and supportive crystals from my collection to guide, and provide... and here! We! Go!
THE CRYSTALS
Crystals: Beautiful earthy totems connecting us to ancestral stories, overlapping human experiences, and the passage of time. We carry them with us as partners on our transformational, autonomous journeys.
Crystal: Guiding words.
Quartz: My path is clear; we, my path and I, are ready for each other.
Pink Amethyst: Mutability is my birthright.
Vanadinite: Harm intended for me, burns to ash at the sight of me, at the sound of my name.
TO THE TAROT
The Tarot: A mutualistic, benevolent platform for reflection, featuring the spherical human story in five parts. The Major Arcana, or the Hero’s Journey in the literary sense, from inspiration to revolution or the Fool to the world, and the four Minor Arcana. Cups. Wands. Swords. And Pentacles.
The deck in hand, I shuffle and wonder;
What might we lay down into the flames to burn freely, wildly before us?
What supportive energies might we breathe into the cleared spaces?
THE SPREAD
Diamond + Root
Four cards in a diamond formation, and the card at the bottom of the deck, the root, underlying nature, and where we can go to be reminded of purpose.
THE PULL
Diamond:
Justice
Nine (IX) of Wands
Nine (IX) of Swords, Reversed
The Empress, Reversed
Root
The Fool, Inspiration

THE MESSAGE: SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON
You must get started now, leaping because it is time and you are strong, light, and unbothered by the chaos of what you cannot control.
THE TAROT READING: SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON
I'm talking to all of us when I'm talking to you.
Inspiration is with you this lunar cycle; it is what will carry you through. "Take the plunge, say go, put yourself forward for the opportunity. Don't be shy," says The Fool, or as I often refer to it, Inspiration. Day-to-day, this is the energy, the pulse, that gets you out of bed in the morning to live. And when it shows itself in a reading, the invitation is more than rise and shine; it is rise and sprint to the edge of the cliff because your wings are ready and you know it...even if you don't yet have proof.
Once you're in the air, on the go, that's when changes are made.
A decision must be made, and it must be made with the information available; a deep knowing that demanding a balanced outcome is the same as demanding perfection—an impossibility. Justice, in many decks, is linked to systems of justice and is so tied to the presumption that these systems operate fairly and for the betterment of all. And you know differently.
Justice, here at SUNSOAKED, is absolutely about decisions coming down, but in a re-visioned way. These decisions are ones you make, as well as those made about what you receive and what you have access to. You gather your strength and trust that verdicts are rooted in equity and divine truth, free of false interpretations and external influence. And if, for some reason, they are not, Karma will step in.
You need not vacate your character to lash out or correct a narrative that will, in time, reveal itself. Retain yourself, be unbreakable.
When Justice is present, much is happening that you cannot see. Often, there are those operating against you. They might twist words to undermine character; someone might play the victim to others in an attempt to vilify in a situation they caused. Time and neutral energetic response (Karma, an equal and opposing reaction) will reveal the true nature of things.
A layer, a critical foundation of Justice, as it pertains to higher-self tending, is to remain centered, steadfast, and fully yourself through even the messiest of life's proceedings. This is because, where equity is concerned, a just outcome for you, what is correct for you, may be utterly disruptive to another's sense of the world.
Don't worship these people or these situations with worry. Or so screams the Nine of Swords, Reversed. When I say this card screams, I mean it screams!
Every single time this card pops up in a 1:1 reading, it must be addressed first, just to clear the air around it, which is, in many ways, the genius of the illustration of this card.* The Nine of Swords is the archetypical embodiment of anxiety, distraction, and overconcern with the outcome. In readings reversed, or otherwise, it invites you to confront your obsessive, intrusive, and self-sabotaging thought cycles.
The warning: If you do lash out or more subtly interject to point out the truly disruptive force in any scenario, you will be "cutting your nose off in spite of your face." Maybe because a good portion of my family was blessed with big noses, we used this phrase a lot growing up. I've found it to be less common than I think, so I'll say more. The phrase means, in an attempt to harm others, you only harm yourself. Even in an effort to save yourself, pointing out the faults of others will leave you wounded beyond belief.
Remaining inspired, and in flight, through the complex workings of a Justice period is advised. Decisions are leaps (or shoves) into the unknown.
Be in motion, be present, and move according to your divine feminine: The Empress, reversed. In Latin, the anima portion of the anima/animus. And in Taoist philosophy, yin to yang. Regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, the divine feminine is within you.
She emerges in you first as pure energy, connecting to your needs, feelings, and community, and is, over time, deprioritized in society.
You are right now, during this coming cycle, called to rekindle and reconnect with your purest emotional and practical needs. The Empress, reversed, calls you to engage in feeling-recognition so that your higher self might guide you. Share within partnerships and your community. Shed what you are "supposed to feel" to become light, nimble, and fortified by an emotional foundation that is not inherited but built by you.
Explicitly fortified to do what you came here to do—individually, as yourself—within and for the betterment of the shared world and all energetic ties.
The Nine of Wands reminds that the unknown is yours to uncover, to be a part of, and to accept within yourself. It is a note that accomplishment and victory are yours for the taking, but the length and intensity of the climb remain a mystery.
You must get started now, leaping because it is time and you are strong, light, and unbothered by the chaos of what you cannot control.

*And the overall iconography of Kim Krans' Wild Unknown deck. It is why I teach with it, and we mostly learn with it in SUNSOAKED workshops and courses...sorry, sidequest.
